About Keswick
KESWICK UPON DERWENTWATER IS a Lakeland market town which derives from Old English for 'cheese farm' (Keswick is pronounced "Kezzick"). Keswick is a vibrant town, both culturally and otherwise, and one of the most popular resorts in the Lake District.
At its heart is the Market Square and the famous Moot Hall, with its famous one-handed clock. The Moot Hall, now home to Keswick’s Tourist Information Centre, has served as a courthouse, a prison, a museum, a town hall and even a butter and fruit market.
Keswick boasts a number of fine restaurants, public houses and shops, most centred around Market Square and Main Street. It has an excellent reputation for outdoor equipment and clothing, with its plethora of outdoor shops.
Keswick has a cinema too, showing the latest films and playing host to the Keswick Film Club. There are also a number of museums in the town -, the Keswick museum at Fitz park, Cars of the Stars motor museum and many more.
Five minutes walk from the town centre brings you to the shores of Derwentwater lake, the “Queen of Lakes”.
Here, the Theatre by the Lake is well renowned and hosts a number of professional plays, concerts and talks --

Keswick is awash with festivals and events to interest and please most – the Jazz festival, the Film Festival, the Beer Festival, the Religious Convention and many more.
Keswick’s unique location on the shores of Derwentwater lake, surrounded by the northern Lakeland fells, make it ideal for all types of visitors, from those seeking quiet enjoyment in the beauty of the landscape to those wanting a bit more out of its many offerings; e.g. walkers, climbers, photographers, mountain bikers and paragliders.
